Girls Varsity Basketball Moves On To Regionals

Huge Win For The Lady Coyotes

On Tuesday night, the Lady Coyotes Varsity Basketball team traveled to White Swan to take on the Lady Cougars. This game was the last game of the EWAC District Tournament and had high stakes. The loser of this matchup would have to face the fact that their season is over, while the winner would get to move on to regionals.

The Lady Coyotes were determined that this game would not be their last, so they came together and played a great basketball game. They started the game strong, playing very aggressive defense to shut down their shooting. Their strategies worked and with their great efforts, the first quarter ended with a score of 9-0.

The second quarter got a couple of the girls in foul trouble, which forced them to back off of their press. This caused the Lady Cougars to get more opportunities to shoot from the inside since they could get it down the court and slimmed the lead down. They went in at half time and came out stronger than before, the Lady Cougars still holding on.

The fourth quarter began with the starters for the Lady Coyotes, who came out stronger than ever, not ready to give up their lead for anything. They stayed down on defense, and didn’t rush on offense, but made the plays necessary to seal the deal for the Coyotes. They had some excellent free throw shooting from Karsyn Wallace, Azlyn Pariera, and Alyssa Stanley which inched their lead ahead point by point. They ended up winning the game 45-35 and were extremely ecstatic about the win.

This win bought the girls at least one more game, which is a loser out regional game, the place and opponent to be determined. If the girls pull the win next weekend, they will advance to the State Tournaments in Spokane the first week of March.
